Parosteal osteosarcoma originates from the outer periosteum, presenting as a densely calcified soft tissue mass. It is most often adjacent to the posterior distal femoral shaft.

Parosteal osteosarcoma is considered less aggressive than periosteal or central osteosarcoma.
