With what benign lesion may a parosteal osteosarcoma be confused?
Myositis ossificans. A potentially useful distinguishing clue is the tendency of myositis ossificans to mineralize from the outside in and the opposite in parosteal osteosarcoma. A calcified mass with central lucency therefore suggests myositis ossificans. However, mature myositis may not demonstrate a lucent center.
