What is DSA?

Digital subtraction angiography is the acquisition of angiographic images using flat-panel or electronic detectors. Following the acquisition of several frames prior to contrast administration (masks), images are obtained during the injection of contrast material. Subtracted images are obtained by electronically subtracting the mask images from the contrast-enhanced images. The resulting image displays structures that fill with contrast and enhances their conspicuity.
