What is PVL?

PVL is a form of ischemic injury that occurs usually after 26 weeks, commonly in preterm infants. It shows gliosis and white matter loss in the posterior or periatrial
(around the atria of the ventricles) white matter. Ventricles are enlarged posteriorly (colpocephaly), and margins are irregular.
