What is the humpback deformity of the scaphoid?
Malunion of a scaphoid waist fracture in the setting of an intact scapholunate ligament. The proximal pole of the scaphoid rotates dorsally with the lunate and heals with the distal scaphoid pole in this position, leaving a residual apex dorsal angulation, or hump-back, at the fracture site. The lunate is tilted dorsally on a lateral view of the wrist.
