Patellar dislocation can be radiographically occult, as the patella is frequently relocated at the time of imaging. What other imaging modality may be useful?

MRI can demonstrate the characteristic osseous contusion pattern and thereby confirm the diagnosis. Additionally, MRI may detect chondral or occult osseous injuries in addition to soft tissue abnormalities.
