What is the imaging study of choice for patients with a suspected rotator cuff tear?

MRI has approximately 95% sensitivity and specificity for complete tears and 85% accuracy for partial tears and tendinitis.
MRI arthrography increases the accuracy but requires a procedure. Conventional (x-ray) arthrography may also be used.
