What is an osteochondrosis?

Poorly understood disorder of bone growth in epiphyses or epiphyseal equivalents during periods of rapid bone growth (youth). This is thought to be osteonecrosis secondary to chronic repetitive stress or vascular insult. Osteochondroses may resolve completely.
