What does a sunrise view show, and when is it useful?

A sunrise view (taken from below at a 15 degrees angle with the knee flexed at 115 degrees) provides a tangential view of the patella and intercondylar fossa of the femur, demonstrating the patellofemoral joint. A sunrise view is good for showing subluxation of the patella from the trochlear groove.
