What is the best way to approach radiographic examination of the cervical spine in a high-risk patient?
High-risk patients and patients with limited physical examination (i.e., distracting injuries) should go directly to CT, given the relative insensitivity of radiographs. Otherwise, a physical examination should be performed by the referring clinician and correlated with AP, odontoid, and cross-table lateral views (performed in cervical collar).
