What is the pathogenesis of acromegaly?

Excess pituitary growth hormone causes changes in the bones and soft tissues. In children, excess growth hormone increases the linear growth of the long bones, leading to gigantism. In adults, gigantism can-not occur because the epiphyses have closed, but the excess growth hormone leads to bone enlargement and soft tissue growth.
