What is the recommended treatment?

Elevate the extremity above the level of the heart; maintain this position, if possible, for approximately 24 hours. The patient should apply ice packs or cold compresses three times daily until the area is normal. Maintain contact with the patient by phone until the problem is resolved. If there is significant extravasation, consider a plastic surgery consult and steroid administration.
