How can the right portal vein be best identified on color Doppler ultrasound?

Scan in the right flank in the transverse plane midway through the liver at the level of the porta and look for the Y (i.e., the right portal vein bifurcating into the anterior and posterior segmental branches). Normal flow should be toward the transducer.
