What is 2D Echocardiology?
2DE is the generic name for ultrasound of the heart in real-time rapidly acquired B-mode (brightness mode) imaging. An imaging sector is scanned with multiple lines of ultrasound, and the information is electronically recorded. After the entire sector has been scanned, the information is displayed in a two-dimensional spatially oriented format. Both TEE and TTE are 2DE methods.
