What eight orders must be followed prior to the procedure?

1. Withhold warfarin anticoagulation prior to the procedure for high risk procedures
2. Withhold metformin before and following the parenteral administration of iodinated contrast.
3. Correct coagulopathy using fresh-frozen plasma.
4. Correct thrombocytopenia; platelet level should exceed 60,000/mm3.
5. Keep patient on clear liquids approximately 8 hours prior to the procedure.
6. Administer intravenous fluids to maintain hydration.
7. Initiate antibiotic therapy if entry into a contaminated or infected area is suspected.
8. Initiate contrast reaction prophylaxis if indicated.
