Intralobar: Within the normal lung and its pleural covering; most common type. Usually presents as recurrent pneumonias or abscesses in young adults; incidence equal in men and women; drains via the pulmonary vein; not associated with other congenital abnormalities.


Extralobar: Separate from lung and has its own pleural covering; often discovered incidentally; associated with other congenital abnormalities. Four times more common in men than in women; drains via the systemic venous system.
