First stage: limit blood flow to lungs; shunt with pulmonary artery ligation
Second stage: shunt is removed and superior vena cava blood directed to pulmonary artery (Glenn's shunt)
Third stage: Fontan's procedure: inferior vena cava venous return directed to pulmonary artery
