How is a quantitative scan performed?

Ventilation and perfusion images are obtained in the anterior and posterior projection. (Perfusion images are typically obtained in all standard projections as well.)
The lungs are divided into thirds and the geometric mean of the anterior and posterior images is calculated.
The relative lung function, expressed as a percentage of total function, is computed for both ventilation and perfusion images.
