How is the thyroid gland imaged with nuclear medicine?

I-123 is administered orally, or an intravenous dose of Tc-99m pertechne-tate may be used. Imaging is performed with a pinhole collimator after about 6 hours with I-123 or 20 minutes with Tc-99m pertechnetate.
