What are theranostics?

Theranostics is a combination of the terms diagnostics and therapeutics. A molecule that can combine with a target on particular tumor cells is used to bring the radionuclides into the body to localize the tumors (diagnostic imaging) and then the same or similar molecules are used to bring another type radionuclide to the same target for treatment (killing the tumor cells).
