What is SPECT?

SPECT is a technique that uses one, two, or more gamma cameras to record activity emitted from multiple projections around the patient. The information is used to generate a volumetric data set, which can be displayed in any plane (typically, however, only sagittal, coronal, and axial planes are employed). SPECT is roughly analogous to CT or MRI in 3D information is provided.
