What studies are used in the preoperative assessment of an AV fistula?

Ultrasound is excellent for detecting the fistula initially.
Angiography localizes the fistula for surgical or endovascular therapy.(The site may be difficult to find at surgery owing to thickened, tortuous draining veins.)
