How effective is embolization therapy for AVMs?

Variable. Large AVMs with multiple feeding vessels or rapid arteriovenous shunting often require multiple embolization sessions, which are often only partially successful. Results are better with small AVMs if a superselective catheter can be placed directly in the feeding vessel.
