What is a column of Bertin?

A column of Bertin is a prominent formation of normal renal cortex that may bulge into the renal sinus and simulate a mass.
However, it has normal enhancement on IVP and CT and normal echo texture on ultrasound.
Nuclear cortical scanning demonstrates normal renal tissue.
