What is polydactyly?

This developmental anomaly is characterized by duplication of one or more digits. Postaxial or ulnar-sided polydactyly is most common in individuals of African origin and may indicate a serious abnormality in whites. Preaxial polydactyly is duplication of the thumb or great toe.
