How is MRCP performed?

Heavily T2-weighted images of the liver in multiple paracoronal planes are obtained, or heavily T2-weighted images are viewed in multiplanar reconstruction. The result is that the fluid (bile) in the biliary system remains visible; the other tissues have nearly completely lost signal and therefore are not seen.
