What is a useful landmark for locating the pancreas on an axial CT scan?

Find the third part of the duodenum
(i.e., the most cephalad loop of small bowel passing immediately anterior to the aorta and posterior to the SMA in the abdomen). Then move cephalad through the slices to identify the uncinate process and the head, neck, body, and tail of the pancreas.
