How does one locate the colon on a CT scan?
Look for the bowel that is posterolateral in the retroperitoneum at the level of the mid abdomen. This is the ascending colon (right side) and descending colon (left side). Then follow the ascending or descending colon to trace the colon from one end to the other. One can also find the rectum and follow the colon retrograde to the cecum.
