What is the appearance of leiomyomas on ultrasound?

They are usually hypoechoic with a whorled heterogeneous echo texture, but they may be calcified. An affected patient may have discrete masses, a distorted uterus, or a diffusely enlarged uterus. Some degenerated fibroids may be partially cystic; many have calcification.
