What is spatial resolution?

Spatial resolution is the ability to separate two adjacent structures. This can be two structures deep to one another (axial resolution) or next to one another (lateral resolution). Diminished lateral resolution accounts for most ultrasound blur. Lateral resolution is improved (less blur) with high-frequency transducers and focused transducers.
