How is VCUG performed?

Contrast medium is instilled into the empty bladder through a catheter. The bladder is filled to capacity, and films are taken during voiding. The process should be observed fluoroscopically so that any vesicoureteral reflux can be observed and bladder contractility can be assessed. In the setting of trauma, a urologist should place the catheter.
