How should one evaluate a patient who is having a reaction to IV contrast?

Remember the ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation).

Administer oxygen, secure IV access, attach monitor.

Auscultate lungs.

Take the patient's blood pressure and pulse; ask about the patient's symptoms; observe skin for hives.

Most reactions occur within 30 minutes of injection. Observe until all serious symptoms abate.
