What is the normal Doppler appearance of the hepatic veins?

The hepatic veins demonstrate flow toward the heart with pulsatility (caused by waves transmitted from the heart) and respiratory phasicity (i.e., flow increasing with inspiration as blood is drawn into the thorax and nearly ceasing when a Valsalva maneuver is performed).
