Describe the colon cutoff sign

An abrupt termination of gas, usually at the distal transverse or proximal descending colon, results when inflammatory fluid spreads from the pancreas through the transverse mesocolon, narrowing the colon. Although this finding is classically associated with pancreatitis, it is seen in only a minority of cases.
