Describe the psoas sign

Loss of the psoas margin. The margin of the psoas can usually be seen on plain film of the abdomen because the margin is outlined by retroperitoneal fat. If fluid (e.g., as a result of pancreatitis) or blood infiltrates the retroperitoneum, the interface is lost, and the psoas sign is seen.
