How does one select the appropriate transducer?
In most adult patients, a low-frequency (2-2.5 MHz) transducer is used to increase penetration. In thin patients, a higher-frequency (3.5-5 MHz) transducer may be used to increase resolution. Remember, higher-frequency transducers yield increased resolution, but penetration of the ultrasound beam is decreased.
