The cardiac apex is displaced to the left, downward, and posteriorly, and the cardio-thoracic ratio is increased.
Right ventricular enlargement can cause upward and outward displacement of the left ventricle and cardiac apex, whereas left ventricular enlargement tends to cause downward and outward displacement.
